Hear a different harmony
You finish with: Two versions compared; one choice kept.
Step 1: Keep the tune, change its ground
Listen for: the same melody over a new first chord.
Tune: C · D · E · rest · G · F · E · C
Chords: C–E–G, then A–C–E.
Fig. 7. The tune over C–E–G, then over A–C–E. The two chords share C and E.
Some notes settle and some pull somewhere else. Neither chord has a compulsory emotion.
iPhone on silent? Flip the switch.
Now in FL Studio: save as FirstTrack_harmony_A.flp, replace C–E–G with A–C–E and the bass C with A, then save as FirstTrack_harmony_B.flp.
Step 2: Listen to the relationship
Neither chord has a compulsory emotion.
Listen for: which notes settle and which pull somewhere else.
Step 3: Save and check
Listen for: a melody that still feels intentional over the chords you kept.
Finish
The check: Kept one version as FirstTrack.flp, with a one-sentence reason beside it? Then you’re done.
Words you know now: harmony, Save as.
