Let one instrument answer another

Step 1: Leave a gap

1. Open FirstTrack.
2. Leave space at the end of a lead or vocal phrase.

That space is where another instrument can respond.

Listen for: a clear gap after the phrase.

Step 2: Play an answer

1. Play a two-bar answer, or hum it and find the notes in the Piano Roll.
2. Borrow the lead’s rhythm or shape.
3. Change the ending.
4. Capture it in a separate pattern.
5. Compare it with silence.

Listen for: the answer against the same gap left empty.

Step 3: Save and check

1. Keep the answer if it strengthens the conversation.
2. Check that it leaves room for the lead.

Listen for: the lead and the answer taking turns, not talking over each other.
