Give the melody a pulse
You finish with: A rhythm with one intentional accent.
Step 1: Add a hat
Listen for: kick, hat, hat, kick, hat, hat, repeating.
No 707 CH?
If that sample is missing, use a closed hat from the same folder. Keep the kick from lesson 1.
Step 2: Change the feel
A softer hit changes the feel without changing the pattern.
Listen for: one hat quieter than the rest, and how that changes the feel.
Fig. 4. Kick on 1 and 9, hat on 3, 7, 11 and 15. The hat on 11 is softer. Tap a hat to make it loud, soft or off.
Same pattern, one quieter hit. The feel changes and nothing moved.
iPhone on silent? Flip the switch.
Now in FL Studio: select the hat channel, choose Velocity in the Graph Editor and lower one hit.
Step 3: Save and check
The parts meet in the Playlist next lesson.
Listen for: your tapped rhythm and your hummed melody fitting together.
Finish
The check: Saved a rhythm with one quieter hat you chose, and can tap it while you hum the melody? Then you’re done.
Words you know now: hat, velocity, Graph Editor, accent.
